Elective Badges
Requirements for Elective Badges
-
Choose a subject and obtain approval from the Captain prior to commencement
-
Submit work at regular intervals when required for inspection
-
Keep a logbook of time spent and work done
-
Present the end result for assessment by someone knowledgeable
- Submit a short report (minimum 3 pages with pictures showing your collection/activities, softcopy in MS Word) related to the chosen subject.Pls answer the following questions in your report:
a) a brief history of the hobby (e.g. who made the first guitar etc)
b) what makes you choose to take up this hobby?
c) what have you learnt so far?
d) timeline (when did you start, how many have you collected, how long have you spent on rehearsing/performing)My email: samueltcw+yahoo.com.sg

The list of subjects/activities for Arts, Crafts and Hobbies awards are not exhaustive, and the Seniors Programme Committee is prepares to approve additions on application prior to commencement of the course.

how to do a report of a badge?
huh.. reading.. wad books.. ??

the report can be 2-3 pages. Must include the introduction or history of the item, e.g. guitar (who created, first use etc.). Besides that, write the reasons why you choose the hobby/art/craft and how long you have been involved in it…also, show pictures of yr item…
U can ask me during parade for more info…
Hope this give u some rough ideas on how to write the report…

You can collect other things…game card is fine…submit a short report (2 pages with some pics of yr cards) to me abt the game card (include history, why and when u started to collect the cards…

You can record the time spent for yr hobbies every week/month in the logbook of time…for example, if you spent 1 hrs this week to paste the plastic airplane model, you can record it down as 1 hr with the date.
The reason for this is that a hobby must be something that is done by you over a long period of time…it is not a hobby if you just spend 1 day in a year to collect certain items…

The 5 requirements are the same as written in the first paragraph above. The examples of the things you can do are also listed above. So, you can choose one for each badge.

captain either than the things listed on the hobbies badge can do other things like guitar picks
hmm…can…but must have collected a good amount of guitar picks over a period of time to be considered hobbies…

U can do model/origami fr Crafts badge but must have been doin it consistently for at least 3 months with 7 hrs of pratical work
captain if we attend for special courses like parachuting will be able to wear the badge ???
Sorry, u can only wear the badges approved by BB HQ. So far, there’s no badge for parachuting yet

Yes, game cards are allowed. Btw, the 3 pages include photos. So, actually u dont have to type alot

You can only use one item for one badge. So, I suggest u do guitar for Arts.
Listening to music can be a hobby. Send me a report abt it based on the requirement stated above, for me to approve.

erm, captain, card collection can or not for the hobbies badge? and the Communicative badge can learn some instrument from the primers to obtain the badge? and 1 last thing, how to obtain the Crafts badge.

Card collection is fine for hobbies. Sure, u can get the Arts badge by learning music instruments frm the primers. For Crafts badge, the requirement is the same as mentioned above. Must involved in the activity for at least 3 months. Example, for cooking, u must cook regularly for 3 months (instant noodles are not accepted).

3 is refering to music – it can be knowing how to play musical instrument (application) or can be about learning the history of a certain music (appreciation)

A report must be submitted for every elective badge. The requirements stated above are the same for all.

Hi Jonathan, r u refering to the dateline? If you are, the dateline is for all elective badges. Of course, if u can submit earlier, the better it is. If submit later, have to wait till the next award ceremony in March 2009 to get your badge.

Gerard…all electives are on throughout the year. Just submit the report to me before the dateline so that you can receive your badge during the next award ceremony…have u read the instruction on top of this page? It’s all there…u can ask those who have submitted to me how they do it…
